BASE ELEMENTS

City Elements 180 is a versatile, modular architectural lighting system that combines superior performance with elegant design in a compact, 7.1" (180mm) diameter structural form.

City Elements 180 offers design professionals the flexibility of a multi-purpose lighting system within a single architectural structure — pairing a top element for area illumination (available in 360° and 240° lens configurations, or side-emitting walkway/accent beams) with up to two additional intermediate modules below for further area lighting, accenting, or highlighting of facades, landscaping, or statuary. This layered approach lets one column serve multiple lighting functions without adding visual clutter to the site.

Scaled for pedestrian environments, City Elements 180 columns reach heights up to 20 feet — well suited to plazas, parks, campuses, promenades, and streetscapes. Machined from 6061 aluminum, the luminaire housings and extruded shaft are finished in finely textured paint protected by Hess's proprietary PRIMAR® coating, with stainless steel hardware throughout — available in silver grey, dark grey, graphite grey, matte black, dark bronze, or custom RAL colors. City Elements 180 is CSA Certified for Wet Locations, with several elements additionally IP65 rated.

The Hess City Elements 180 is a highly versatile, modular architectural lighting system that combines superior performance with elegant design, allowing professionals to create customized, multifunctional light columns tailored to plazas, streetscapes, and pedestrian-scaled landscape projects.

At the core of the City Elements 180 is its 7.1-inch (180 mm) diameter extruded aluminum structure, enabling configurations up to columns reaching 20 feet. The system's strength lies in its modularity: columns are built from interchangeable top, intermediate, and base components that stack and configure seamlessly to deliver multiple lighting functions—area illumination, pathway lighting, accenting, or facade and landscape highlighting—within a single, cohesive pole.

Key components include:

Top Elements — A choice of crown luminaires caps the column and defines its primary lighting character. Options include the AR800 (360° lens for uniform area distribution with Type II–V optics), AA800 (240° lens for ground-level illumination with Type II–IV optics), AH400-Dalvik (a cast-aluminum, bracket-mounted area luminaire with 2 or 3 LED modules for broader coverage), and AS400 (a side-emitting element available as the L3.1, for fixed downward area/walkway lighting, or the L3.3, a field-adjustable spot/medium/wide beam for accenting). These feature high-power LED optics, color temperatures of 3000K warm white or 4000K neutral white, CRI 80+, and lumen outputs ranging from roughly 865 lumens (AS400 accent beams) up to over 11,000 lumens (3-module AH400-Dalvik). Controls include 0-10V dimming (standard on most models, optional on AR800), with On/Off and DMX/RDM available on the AA800.

Intermediate Elements — These stackable sections mount below the top element to add height and additional lighting functions. The BH400-Dalvik brings the same cast-aluminum, LEED-zone-compliant area lighting as its top-mounted AH400 counterpart to an intermediate position, while the BS400 offers the same fixed downward or adjustable accent-beam optics as the AS400 for lighting facades, landscaping, or statuary beneath the primary top element.

Base Elements — Available as the CR01 (internal flange, for columns up to 16 feet) or CR02 (external flange, required for columns 16 feet and taller, supporting heights up to 20 feet), each mounts via anchor bolts or soil insert and includes a lockable, tamper-resistant access door with c-channel for a junction box. Bases can be specified with a surface- or internal-mount power box offering combinations of GFCI and USB-A/USB-C outlets, plus an optional 20kV surge suppressor.

This modular approach means each City Elements 180 column is factory-assembled to exact specifications, supporting arrangements from a single top element for simple area lighting to a fully layered column combining area lighting above with accenting or highlighting below—with optional features such as 0-10V dimming, DMX/RDM control, photocontrol receptacles, GFCI/USB power outlets, surge suppression, or house-side shields.

Built for durability and longevity:

Materials — 6061 aluminum housings and shafts, optical-quality acrylic lenses, stainless steel hardware, and finely textured matte finishes—Silver Grey, Dark Grey, Graphite Grey, Matte Black, Dark Bronze, or custom RAL colors—all protected by Hess's proprietary PRIMAR® coating for long-term corrosion and UV resistance.

Performance Features — Removable access covers for optical and electrical assemblies, electrical disconnects for future LED upgrades, weathertight cable bushings, zero-uplight optics on cast-aluminum elements (suitable for all LEED lighting zones), and CSA certification for wet locations, with several elements additionally IP65 rated.

Warranty — 5-year limited warranty on the product and LEDs (driver warranty per manufacturer).

Ideal for public plazas, parks, pedestrian zones, campuses, promenades, and streetscapes, the City Elements 180 brings the same expressive, multifunctional design philosophy as the City Elements 230 to a more compact scale—offering timeless aesthetics, energy efficiency, and flexibility.
