Project of the Month - Uptown Houston

This month's featured project is Uptown Houston; a vibrant and modern business district located approximately six miles west of downtown, and home to the prestigious Galleria shopping mall. Rich in architecture and populated with numerous upscale retail establishments, restaurants, and hotels, it ranks 17th among business districts in the United States. Faro 720 pole mounted luminaires line the sidewalks throughout the area providing warm and glare-free illumination at night for pedestrians in a subtle unobtrusive fashion.

The owners, Uptown Development Authority, worked closely with prominent landscape architecture firm, SWA Group in Houston, to develop an improved pedestrian system for the district. The goal was to transform ten miles of "harsh" vehicular-dominated streets into walkable, accessible, pedestrian-friendly environments. Elements of the project included six-foot wide concrete sidewalks, fully accessible street corners, shade-producing trees, and a district-wide pedestrian lighting system all combined to promote urban living.

The design team selected the Faro 720 luminaire and pole based on three criteria; an elegant and contemporary form to complement the general architectural context of the area, glare-free illumination with a warm color temperature, and lastly, the product had to be durable and able to withstand environmental conditions over a long period of time. These requirements were satisfied by the Faro 720 with its high-performance facetted indirect optical system and ceramic metal halide lamp source.

Our thanks to the SWA team, Lighting Associates - our representatives, and KenMor Electric Company, the installing contractor, for bringing this vision to reality.

Twenty thousand visitors were registered for the Las Vegas venue, making it the largest attendance to date for this location. Booth traffic was steady throughout the show, generating hundreds of leads from qualified specifiers.
Special thanks go to everyone who stopped by the booth to see and learn about the new products. Sales leads from both shows were emailed to the principal or main sales contact for each agency. We make a significant investment to attend and ask that you follow up on these leads at your earliest convenience. Should you need these resent, please contact Wes Lane on ext. 225 or by email at should you have any questions.

Modular Light Column System Evolves into City Elements

The NIGHT ELEMENTS modular, column-based lighting system has evolved into CITY ELEMENTS and is now available in 7", 8", and 9" diameters. The new 7" and 8" diameters are available in heights up to twenty feet and blend perfectly into settings where the scale and proportion of a smaller diameter column enhances the architecture. Column configurations may be single purposed lighting instruments for general area lighting and may include up to two lighting modules stacked below the top lighting element for accenting and highlighting of architectural elements. Convenience outlets with in-use covers are available, expanding the flexibility of the new product offerings. A low-level bollard with 7" diameter completes the product line expansion.
The original nine-inch column continues to be offer combinations of up, down, and lateral light distributions for area or street lighting, pathway illumination, accenting, and zonal definition. Specialty modules to accept security cameras or convenience outlets with in-use covers expand its versatility. The nine-inch version is available in heights ranging from low-level pathway bollards to columns with an overall height of thirty feet.
We have done several interesting projects with the 9" version and forsee more extensive usage with the added sizes.
