Project of the Month

The project of the month is the campus of Upward Unlimited in Spartanburg, South Carolina. The site lighting is the result of close collaboration between the owner and architect, with assistance from the HessAmerica staff. Products featured include the SERA S and Valencia pole mounted luminaires, as well as Sierra columns in standard and custom wall mounted configurations.
Caz McCaslin, president and founder of Upward Unlimited, took a hand’s on approach in the fixture selection process by working with the project architect, Toren Andersen of McMillan Smith & Partners. They took advantage of the close proximity of HessAmerica’s outdoor exhibit, the Gallery, to develop a complete site lighting solution over the course of several visits to the facility.
Valencia pole mounted luminaires highlight the entry to the scenic campus. Sera S pole mounted fixtures in single and twin mount configurations provide illumination to the tree-lined entrance roadway and parking areas for the office and distribution center. Sierra columns illuminate the entrance to the distribution center.
At the main office building, Valencia fixtures highlight the gracefully arched entrance to the building and adjacent walkways. Custom wall mounted Sierra columns add a dramatic accent to arched entries overlooking the lake, with light shimmering on the water at night.

Catalog Update

New catalog sheets are now available to update binders currently in the field. This update includes existing products that were not in the initial printing of the new red binder, as well as some newly introduced products. If you have not already done so, please place your order for these update packets so that binders in the field may be brought up to date.
We have a spreadsheet available that lists the firms, which have been issued catalogs in your territory. This log is available to you on request, however it will show only the firms and locations where the catalog registration forms were completed and returned to us. As a reminder for future catalog distributions, please complete and return the registration form when distributing a catalog. Should you need a copy of this listing, or require additional catalog registration cards, please contact Wes Lane on ext. 225 or by email at wlane@hessamerica.com.

LED Cubes

In June, we announced a promotional program designed to increase awareness and stimulate usage of the new and expanded HessAmerica website within the design community. All agencies were shipped an initial supply of LED color-changing cubes imprinted with the www.hessamerica.com address for distribution to specifiers likely to specify Hess products. If you need additional LED cubes, contact Wes Lane on ext. 225 or by email at wlane@hessamerica.com, but please be aware that quantities are limited.

New Website Articles

We have posted a new article for the Light Tower on the home page of the HessAmerica website. The brochure in PDF format and a video of the Light Tower is available for download at the bottom of the webpage.
Additionally, the Carnival Center for the Performing Arts article has been updated to include an article reprint about the project from April 2007 issue of Landscape Architect & Specifier News.

Gallery Visits

HessAmerica has hosted nine different groups of visitors since our last newsletter in March. With the warm summer weather in full swing, you may want to consider scheduling a visit before time slots are gone. Visits may be tailored to meet the needs of your specifiers with sufficient notice. We can also arrange recreational activities such as the Biltmore House excursion, BMW factory tour, or golf outings depending on visitor interests. Recently, two visitors made a Charleston weekend part of their visit. Contact Terry O’Toole to make arrangements.
Chris Myers of Lighting Associates, landscape architects representing the Houston firms of SWA, Clark Condon Assciates, and Kudela & Weinheimer, and yours truly, toured the Biltmore House during their visit in June.
